QiYoga With LuChin's 10 Minutes Qigong Video into a Fast-Paced 59-Second YouTube Short | Full Structure
I recently reached out to LuChin, the creator behind the QiYoga With LuChin YouTube channel, offering to edit short-form content for her page. She asked for a quick 6-second sample to see my style, but I wanted to show her what a complete, high-value Short could actually look like. So, I decided to go all-in and edit a full 59-second YouTube Short instead.
For the source material, I picked her 10-minute video on
Condensing a full 10-minute tutorial down to under a minute isn't just about making fast cuts—it's about knowing what to keep. My main goal was to deliver maximum value in 59 seconds without making the routine feel overwhelming.
I mapped out the entire video and filtered out everything except the core teaching points and physical demonstrations. By focusing purely on the execution of each exercise, I trimmed away the fluff and laid down a clean, action-packed backbone for the Short.
The Editing & Graphic Design Phase
Once the pacing was locked, it was time to turn a widescreen video into a polished vertical Short that keeps viewers hooked.
Reframing for Vertical (9:16): Since the original video was shot in 16:9 widescreen, I rescaled and reframed the footage to fit the vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, keeping LuChin perfectly centered so her posture and movements remained clear throughout.
Apple-Inspired Liquid Glass UI & Visual Progression: To display exercise steps, I designed a frosted Liquid Glass UI card inspired by modern Apple iOS design aesthetics. To maximize viewer retention, I built an interactive visual progress tracker:
Each of the 6 movements is represented by an indicator button on a slate.
The buttons feature a dynamic green gradient—starting muted/faded for Movement 1 and becoming bright, vibrant green as the routine reaches Movement 6.
Sleek motion graphics animate the current movement label (e.g., "MOVEMENT 3") into place, giving scrollers a clear visual cue of their progress and encouraging them to stay until the final step.
Audio Design & Tactile Transitions: For the audio, I kept LuChin’s original instructional voiceover front and center. To complement the visual overhaul, I added subtle sound design—smooth whoosh effects when the glass slate slides in, and tactile click/button sounds every time the edit transitions between movements (Movement 1 to Movement 2, and so on). Every audio and visual layer was crafted to keep the audience locked in until the very last frame.

In today’s content landscape, short-form video serves as the ultimate discovery tool. Platforms favor high-reach Shorts, Reels, and TikToks, making them the perfect entry point to attract a wider audience.
My ultimate goal with this 59-second edit wasn't just to make a flashy video—it was to create a high-converting visual bridge. By using stunning visuals, smooth motion graphics, and engaging sound design, you instantly hook passive scrollers. Once you grab their attention, the Short acts as an engaging teaser that naturally directs viewers toward LuChin’s full 10-minute long-form video, where they can dive deeper into the complete Qigong practice and proper form.
Repurposing content isn't about replacing long-form videos; it’s about packaging key value in a way that funnel new viewers straight to the original source.
If you're a creator looking to boost your reach, retention, and viewer conversion using high-end video editing and strategic design, let’s work together.
